The idea behind the PPI Companion

The PPI Companion is the result of intensive collaboration across departments and divisions. From the outset, the guiding question was how AI could be specifically integrated into business processes to make knowledge more readily available, decision-making paths shorter and processes more efficient.

The development was driven by teams such as IT and the specialist consulting units, which contributed their expertise to create a solid technical and functional foundation for the PPI Companion. Other areas were added during the development of specific extensions to respond to the individual needs of the respective departments. This iterative approach shows how technical and specialist expertise work together at PPI to create tailor-made solutions – such as the marketing extension.

The marketing extension – AI in creative use

One of the most exciting additions to PPI Companion is the marketing extension. It originated in an internal seminar on AI image generation. The inspiration led to a pilot project: How can AI not only support the marketing team with CD-compliant image editing and design processes, but also open up entirely new possibilities?

This extension enables users to complete tasks that were often not tackled in the past – whether due to lack of time, resources or technical hurdles. For example, team backgrounds and presentation slides can be dynamically adapted, and creative solutions for one-off projects can be implemented quickly and efficiently. Consistency with the corporate design is always maintained. The marketing extension is a lesson in how PPI makes innovative technologies practical to overcome real obstacles in everyday work and tap into new potential.

Everyday life in modern companies is characterised by a flood of information – the question is: how do you find the right information at crucial moments? The PPI Companion provides a solution here: through integration with platforms such as SharePoint, employees have access to the company's bundled knowledge in a targeted manner that complies with data protection regulations. Using the ‘Ask your HR, IMS & SYS’ module, users can ask questions directly, such as ‘How do I apply for educational leave?’, ‘What are the rules for working from home?’ or ‘What processes are stored in the IMS?’. The PPI Companion retrieves the relevant content in a targeted manner and displays it immediately, with defined authorisations ensuring that sensitive data is only accessible to authorised individuals.

Furthermore, each user can create individual projects and upload their documents. Approved files are thus available to project-related teams and colleagues, which facilitates collaboration and enables flexible, tailor-made working methods. This approach reduces the number of enquiries to central departments such as HR or IMS, makes knowledge more easily accessible, and gives employees more time for more important tasks.

A look at practice and beyond

In everyday work, the strength of the PPI Companion becomes apparent whenever specific problems need to be solved quickly.

In HR: New employees often have to wade through long FAQs and documents to find the information they need. With the PPI Companion, this is no longer necessary: it provides precise answers on demand – for example, on holiday policies or working hours.
In marketing: The marketing extension comes into play for short-term projects, such as redesigning an event background. Templates are created in seconds, completely in line with company guidelines.

But the PPI Companion is constantly evolving. Each department contributes ideas and requirements, which are considered in regular updates. This close integration of technical development and user feedback shows how PPI is continuously expanding its AI expertise.
